The Moderating Effect of Parenting Efficacy Between Parenting Stress and Parenting Behavior of Mothers of Children with Developmental Disabilities

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effect of parenting efficacy between parenting stress and parenting behavior of mothers of children with developmental disabilities. Data were collected from 187 mothers who have children with developmental disabilities. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed by input parenting stress as prediction variable, parenting efficacy as moderator variable and parenting behavior as criterion variable. Result showed that parenting stress had a negative effect on parenting behavior, and moderating effect of parenting efficacy was verified, impacting parenting stress on parenting behavior. This results showed that although parenting behavior was negative by parenting stress, parenting efficacy of high level moderated the behavior to be positive parenting behavior. This results suggests there is a significant basis to develop program to improve parenting efficacy program.
